Asylum Aftermath is the first mission in Hitman: Contracts. Murdering Dr. Ort-Meyer, Agent 47 must escape his asylum, surrounded by the Romanian police.

― Mission Briefing

Description

Unconscious, Agent 47 lies in his Paris hotel room, wounded from the assassination attempt. He hallucinates the events from the end of the mission Meet Your Brother, and his subsequent escape from the Satu Mare Mental Institute as it is raided by armed Romanian Police.

Intel

INFO: The sanitarium has been surrounded by SWAT. Either shoot your way out or see if you can escape undetected.

DETAILS: Watch out for the SWAT police. Their gear includes body armor, high-caliber weapons, GPS trackers that enable SWAT command to track each SWAT member.
SANITARIUM PERSONNEL: Remember that the sanitarium personnel is still looking for you. They use stun guns, so take them down from a distance.

Notes

• The mission introduces the player to the game's main mechanics; it is linear and is more restrictive than other missions.
• There is no briefing.
• There are no targets; only one objective.
• In the lobby room with detained patients, after a while, one will take out the AUG SMG and start shooting, which causes the police to enter inside and kill everyone, including the shooter and disguised Agent 47 if present.
• DPIR policemen mostly operate in squads and have trackers that make them rush to an unconscious or dead comrade's body.

• The only level with security cameras tracking Agent 47's movement. They do not detect 47, nor will it affect the mission rating.
• The mission was originally titled "Sanitarium Aftermath".
• Dr. Ort-Meyer's car - the Mercedes-Benz W201 - is depicted as having all-wheel drive, while in reality, it is rear-wheel.
• As a flashback the mission is between Curtains Down and Hunter and Hunted; chronologically - between Meet Your Brother and The Gontranno Sanctuary.

Easter Eggs

• In the underground lab, there is a secret wing. To access it, you must first acquire Orthmeyer's Keycard in The Wang Fou Incident and complete the mission with it in the inventory. Then, upon returning to this level, in the underground lab turning right after the corridor with dead No. 48s, use the keycard to open locked doors. Inside this wing are: a patient armed with a Minigun, Gold Desert Eagle Dual lying on the floor and the chamber with clones of Agent 47's Five Fathers, and the game's developers.
