The Dragunov SVD is a semi-automatic sniper rifle chambered in 7.62×54mmR and developed in the Soviet Union. In it's appearances it is equipped with the unique PSO-1 scope, with its distinctive reticule.[2]

The SVD Dragunov is featured in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts, and Hitman: Blood Money.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin[]

In Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, the Dragunov SVD is called the SVD Sniper and is not concealable due to the absence of rifle cases in the game. It first appears in the mission St. Petersburg Stakeout, in which the Agency leaves a Dragunov in a designated locker in the St. Petesburg metro and Agent 47 has the option of sneaking his way with the rifle in plain sight all the way to the Pushkin Building, so he can snipe a Russian Army General.

The Dragunov SVD is one of the most common sniper rifles in the game, and although it features an unorthodox scope, it is fairly easy to aim with it. The caliber has a high power, and features a very large magazine. This rifle can be found in the following:

Hitman: Contracts[]

The rifle is now called the Dragunov. It retains it's appearence from the previous installment, and is practically identical. This rifle can be found in the following:

Hitman: Blood Money[]

The rifle is called Dragunov SVD, equipped with Belomo Minuta Sniper Scope, which has an unique scope reticle and one zoom level. It has a higher rate of fire than the Kazo TRG and Elephant Rifle, only outclassed by an upgraded Customized WA2000. It is the one of the most accurate and powerful rifles in the game. It can decimate most NPC's without a headshot; a shot to any part of the body will do the job. This rifle can be found in the following:

  • Death of a Showman - Found inside the rifle case, before the ferris wheel part. Two more guards will use this gun, but these are not obtainable. (Can only be kept by storing in ICA crate or bring it along at the end)
  • A Dance with the Devil - Found inside the rifle case next to the desk with the laptop; presumably belonged to Eve.

Trivia[]

  • The SVD encountered in the Hitman 2: Silent Assassin mission St. Petersberg Revisited as an agency drop is unique, as it's ammunition is the first instance of blank rounds in the entire series. The second instance was the Prop WWI Pistol in Hitman: Blood Money mission Curtains Down. Despite this, the weapon cannot be saved with its unique traits, as they are only present in this level. It will instead revert back to its working state when saved or sortied.
  • In Hitman: Blood Money, the Dragunov is one of the two sniper rifles that NPCs are seen carrying. They are carried by two sentries in Death of a Showman. The other sniper rifle used by NPCs is the Kazo TRG.
  • Also, in Blood Money, the Dragunov is one of the three weapons that can be carried via a rifle case, the others are FN-2000 and WA-2000.
  • The Dragunov in Contracts bears some similarities to PSL-54C, the Romanian SVD derivative, its design and operating principle is actually more similar to the AKM rather than SVD.
  • In the PC version of Hitman: Contracts, this rifle can be spawned using the console and the command "Give dragunov".
  • The "R" is for Rimmed cartridge, which is commonly used by Russian sniper rifles, machine guns and service rifles until WW2. The 7.62x54R is still popular around the world.
  • The Dragunov SVD sniper rifle is officially named "Sniper Rifle, System of Dragunov, Model of the Year 1963" (formal Russian: Сна́йперская Винто́вка систе́мы Драгуно́ва образца́ 1963 года / Snáyperskaya Vintóvka sistém'y Dragunóva obraz'tsá 1963 goda (SVD-63)), with the GRAU index '''6V1''' (ГРАУ Индекс 6В1). It's also known in-game as the "SVD Sniper" or simply "Dragunov".
