Shogun Showdown[]

47 — Diana here! I see you managed to infiltrate the castle. Good work! This castle, Katsuyama-Jo, is the headquarters of Masahiro Hayamoto. Your objective is to track down Hayamoto and eliminate him, as well as get away safely with the missile guidance system in his possession.

Although this squeaky old fortress may look obsolete, make no mistake — it's equipped with all the latest electronic security measures.

On top of that, the place is crawling with ordinary security guards at lower levels, and Hayamoto's own handpicked yoyimbos at the top. Approach this assignment with the utmost caution, 47 — these people are ruthless, fanatical, and extremely clever. I repeat, 47 — evade guards and security measures, eliminate Hayamoto and secure the missile guidance system before escaping.

Background[]

Agent 47 can breathe deep. The long, cold, snowy and perilous journey through the wild lands of central Japan is finally over. The only chore now is to make his way through the annals of Hayamoto's ancient yet deviously high-tech castle, recover the missile guidance system from his basement museum, eliminate the target and, most importantly, escape alive.

Briefing[]

47Diana here!

Weapons[]

  • SMG-SD6 - Carried by most of the guards plus four in the weapons room.
  • .22 Suppressed - At the southeast corner of the museum.
  • Desert Eagle - Carried by some of the guards.
  • Katana - Carried by the ninjas in the rafters, Hayamoto himself, and one in the museum.

Disguises[]

  • Ninja: One is in the TV room, can carry all weapons the guards can carry and even katanas.

Arouse very less suspicion, but Hayamoto, and few guards and ninjas recognise 47. Some guards and ninjas may get suspicious and check 47's ID. The concubine sees through 47's disguise if he carries any weapon, but doesn't show any suspicion if no weapon is being carried openly. If the alarm button is pressed or Hayamoto is killed, carrying weapons seems to make them a bit more suspicious as well.

Trivia[]

  • In this mission, 47 will come across Lei-Ling again and even if disguised, she will still recognize him.
  • In the museum there is a bottle. On that bottle is a picture of Violent J from Insane Clown Posse that says voodoo on the label.
  • This mission is one of the few missions that has two escape routes: the first is the most simple, by exiting the castle through the front door, where the player started the mission. The other is escaping the castle using the helicopter in the courtyard.
  • Regardless of how the player chose her fate in Codename 47, Lei Ling still appears alive in this mission.
  • If the player chooses to rescue Lei Ling, she will follow the player until near the courtyard, at which point she will run towards the right side door of the helicopter to escape with the player in it. Rescuing Lei Ling is entirely optional and has no in-game effect whatsoever. This is also the last time (chronologically) Lei Ling is seen in the series.
  • When 47 meets Lei Ling, he mentions saving her from Lee Hong in Hong Kong; this is a reference to the mission The Lee Hong Assassination from Hitman: Codename 47.
  • If 47 isn't carrying any weapons or standing too close to the concubine, she flirts with him.
  • Some of the NPCs including a few ninjas and the concubine are bugged. Even if 47 is undisguised, if he doesn't carry any weapons they don't react to his appearance at all.
  • In some versions, killing Hayamoto always counts as an 'enemy killed' in the statistics, in spite of the fact that he's a target, and it's necessary to kill him.
  • If the ninjas see 47 planting the bomb on the helicopter, regardless of his disguise they shoot at him.
  • The squeaky wooden boards or running through the lasers without a keycard can be used to distract guards, making it possible to complete this mission with suit only.
  • Sedating guards alerts guards to take up strategic positions as soon the unconscious guard wakes up. This can also be used to the player's advantage.
  • The ninjas on the rafters often don't see 47, as long as he doesn't make any noise, no matter how close the player is to them. Hence it's easy to sneak past them with the default outfit. However, in a few uncommon cases, even not making any sound causes them to detect 47.
  • Inspite of the fact that they're supposed to be 'highly-trained and hand-picked by Hayamoto', his yojimbos don't follow 47 through the window.
  • Hayamoto's Ninjas after his death keep on swinging around their swords at the air as if they are dodging bullets.
  • Even if 47 takes Lei Ling along with him, this doesn't increase or decrease anyone's suspicion.
  • Even if the bomb isn't detonated after planting it on the helicopter, or even near it, the player still doesn't have the option to leave.
  • If Hayamoto is alarmed, he starts running and tries to escape by the helicopter. If it is destroyed he uses the front entrance of the castle. If, however he is provoked before he starts running away, he starts fighting 47 just like his own ninjas with his katana.
  • Hayamoto has more health than most guards in the whole game. He has as much health as any of his ninjas.
  • If 47 kills Hayamoto before meeting Lei Ling, she disappears from the level entirely.
  • Hayamoto's death was ruled out as unsolved or as an accident. Hence he must have been killed by the bomb canonically as that's the only accident kill possible in this mission.
  • If Hayamoto is killed with the direct approach at his top floor, the ninjas on that floor who see 47 kill him never examine his body, hence the player doesn't have to worry about an alert.
  • In some computers used by guards, you can find the screen of another IO game Freedom Fighters, which was in development; going on sale on September 26, 2003.
