Poison in Hitman is used to describe a variety of poisonous substances in all of the games so far. It is usually used to poison food or drink.
Hitman: Codename 47[]
- The Lee Hong Assassination - A Vial of Poison is obtained after Agent 47 delivers the Jade Figurine to the floral shop owner. In Hitman: Contracts, it is a laxative.
- The Setup - Poison Syringe
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin[]
Poison appears in a few missions, most commonly simply as "Poison".
Hitman: Contracts[]
Poison appears in the following missions in Hitman: Contracts, most commonly as "Rat Poison":
- Beldingford Manor - Vial of Poison is located on the drawer in the bedroom front of the bathroom where a maid is taking a shower.
- Rendezvous in Rotterdam - Rat Poison
- Deadly Cargo - Rat Poison is located in Dirty Rabbit bar's second floor's toilet room.
- Traditions of the Trade - Bottle of Poison is located in dentist's office room and in various storage rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
- Slaying a Dragon - Rat Poison located in sewer near the player's starting point.
- The Seafood Massacre - Rat Poison in sewer next to the Cheung Chau Fish Restaurant.
- The Lee Hong Assassination - Vial of Poison is located in Wang Fou Restaurant's brothel.
Hitman: Blood Money[]
In Hitman: Blood Money, poison is replaced by the Poison Syringe, which is part of Agent 47's starting gear in almost all missions. It holds two doses and can be used as a melee weapon to inject the poison directly into the target's neck. It can also be used to squirt the substance into a target's drink, like a traditional poison, although the player must take care not to be seen.
Hitman: Absolution[]
Poison can be found in different missions of Absolution. These include Fugu fish (containing a tetrodotoxin), an old, heavy metal based rat poison and a toxin derived from a Dendrobates Azureus frog.
- The King of Chinatown - Fugu Fish
- Hunter and Hunted - Rat Poison
- Attack of the Saints - Rat Poison
- Blackwater Park - U'wa Tribe Poison
Additionally, in the Contracts Mode, the non-lethal Syringe and Sleeping Pills can be used to kill marked targets as if filled with poison.
HITMAN™[]
Before starting the mission, it's possible to choose two different forms of poison; Syringes, which are used on personnel, and/or Poison Vials, which need to be administered to food/drinks. In addition, the levels often hold large amounts of Rat Poison, which, when administered to food, causes the intended target to go vomit on the nearest toilet, trash can or ledge. Finally, some levels contain natural poisons in the form of poisonous plants or small animals (frogs or fish, in the case of the latter.) These can be obtained and will automatically be rendered suitable for use in food or drink, with the exception of Hokkaido, where the toxin from a Fugu fish must be manually extracted with a knife. When applying these natural poisons to consumables, 47 will always be shown to be opening and pouring a small bottle, no matter what form it originally took.
In missions that take place in Marrakesh, the player has a unique opportunity to poison a Shisha Pipe (also known as a hookah), which is a large, immobile vaping device used in the Middle East and some adjacent cultures. Because the pipes have more than one stem and can be used by multiple people simultaneously, more than one person can be poisoned with a single dose.
Unlockable[]
- A Modern Lethal Syringe is available to use from the start.
- An Antique Lethal Syringe is unlocked by completing all 5 Himmapan Horror challenges in Bangkok.

Locations[]
- The Showstopper - Dalia Margolis carries two Lethal Poison Pill Jars; one is dropped on death/KO, and impersonating Helmut Kruger and meeting Dalia allows access to the other vial. (Possibly an oversight.)
- World of Tomorrow - A Virus Prototype can be found inside a model ship in the storage room next to Silvio Caruso's Bedroom. Although technically not a poison, it can be thrown in close proximity to Francesca De Santis, effectively releasing the virus and killing her (any other person won't be affected) and will count as poison kill.
- A Gilded Cage - One Lethal Poison Pill Jar is kept on a table in the secret tunnel, and another one is kept in Reza Zaydan's office in the old school.
- A House Built on Sand - A lethal poison vial is on a table at one of the meeting rooftop's entrances.
- Club 27 - A Lethal Poison Pill Jar is in Room 104.
- Freedom Fighters - A Modern Lethal Syringe is hidden atop of a shelf on the basement, and Ezra Berg carries a Lethal Poison Pill Jar.
- Situs Inversus - Fugu fish can be harvested once from the Gama's kitchen's freezer. Three bottles of Botulinum Toxin are kept in locked cabinets inside Jason Portman's room, an office in the hospital's top floor, and in a gym in the hospital. Both of these types of poison are lethal.
HITMAN™ 2 and HITMAN™ 3[]
Poison returns in much the same way as its forerunner, HITMAN™. In addition to finding poison in the same locations in the Legacy Missions, poison is scattered throughout the new missions introduced IN HITMAN™ 2. Additionally, there are a few characters who snort lines of cocaine throughout the series, and this substance can be poisoned in the same manner as other consumables. However, these opportunities are rare.
In addition to poisoning food and drink, some maps now include the possibility of poisoning ventilation systems. This will turn the affected room into a damaging environment that will inflict its effect upon all characters in its confines. The player will usually be able to use any poison available in his inventory irrespective of whether or not the particular poison comes in a form that would be actually suitable for poisoning air in the real world (i.e. pills work just as well as liquids.)
The atmosphere in the contaminated area will sometimes take on a particular hue depending on what kind of poison was used: green for emetic poisons, blue for sedatives, red for lethal substances (this visual effect is not present in all levels for some reason.) The contamination will last for several minutes before dispersing unless the player turns off the ventilation system, which will disperse it early. The system can then be poisoned a second time if desired. The player himself will take damage if he enters the affected area regardless of what type of poison was used. Hints that the ventilation is vulnerable to such contamination are are usually present in the conversation of nearby NPCs. Some disguises that include a gas mask, such as the exterminator disguise in Another Life, will permit the player to safely enter the poisoned area.
Possibly most useful to the player, the game introduced poison-loaded dart guns and grenades. Both will surreptitiously administer poison at a distance. Neither the victim nor bystanders will notice the poisoning, provided Agent 47 is not seen in the act. For balance purposes, they are only loaded with non-lethal poisons, as a lethal grenade or dart gun would make traceless assassination too easy.
Trivia[]
- In Hitman: Blood Money, killing a target with a lethal poison syringe will count as a "kill". Therefore 47 must hide the body or else his mission score & rewards will be deducted if the body is found and it will not be possible to get the Silent Assassin rating.
- However, in HITMAN™ 2, killing a target with a lethal poison syringe will count as an accident. Accidental kills do not require the player to hide the body, do not reduce the mission rating, and do not compromise the Silent Assassin rating even if the body is found.
