Rats are one of the few animals that appear in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Blood Money, HITMAN™ and HITMAN™ 2.
They appear in two easter eggs in Hitman: Blood Money. In World of Tomorrow they can be killed to distract a laboratory worker.

- World of Tomorrow
- The Rats are located inside the Ether field lab within the underground cave system beneath Villa Caruso. They are found in the corner of the room where the DNA Specific Virus is located. The rats are inside a glass box and they can be poisoned in order to create a distraction. By using Emetic Rat Poison on the rats, one of the Hazmat Suit NPCs near the virus will notice the rats acting strangely and walk over to investigate.
- There are even more rats to be seen behind the glass box, locked individually behind glass doors. This must mean the scientists at the lab are using rodents as test animals. What exactly they are doing with them is unclear however, but you can only presume it must have to do with the virus somehow.
HITMAN™ 2[]
- The Pen and the Sword
- There are 9 rats scattered through the Sniper Assassin map, once shotting all of them, you will be rewarded with the Rat O'Nine Tails challenge.
- Crime and Punishment
- Instead of 9 rats, in the Siberian Sniper Assassin map there are a total of 6 rats, when shooting all 6, you will gain the Snitches Get Stitches challenge.

- Rats, mice, hamsters and other Rodentia categorized mammals are common when it comes to animal research and experimentation. They have served an important role for discoveries in fields such as psychology and medicine. Up to 20 million rodents are tested on every year in the US and UK combined, but only a couple of percentages of these are rats.
