Situs Inversus is the eighth mission in the 2016 release HITMAN™. It is the last episode (not including the newest bonus episode) of what is supposed to be the first season of the game.

Objectives:

  • Eliminate Erich Soders
  • Eliminate Yuki Yamazaki
  • Locate Exit

Description

The ICA confirms that Soders has defected to Providence in exchange for a cardiac transplantation to stave off his incipient heart failure—complicated due to a congenial condition. Providence, now knowing that the ICA killed its operatives, has recruited Soders in order to control the ICA through an insider. Leveraging its power and influence, Providence has procured, through organ harvesters, a rare right-sided heart required for the operation, and admitted Soders to the GAMA private hospital in Hokkaido, Japan for a fast-tracked surgery. To prevent Soders from trading a full list of ICA operatives to Providence and to issue a warning against interference with the ICA's sovereignty, 47 is admitted to the hospital to eliminate Soders and his Providence liaison Yuki Yamazaki, a former lawyer to the yakuza.

After 47 completes his mission, Diana is approached by the unnamed Providence member from New York. He informs her that that Providence, now aware of the shadow client's role in using the ICA to attack them, wishes to partner up with the ICA and target the shadow client instead. In the face of Diana's reticence and suspicion of Providence's honor, he offers to provide information on 47's unknown background in exchange for an alliance, handing her an old photograph of a small boy who appears to be 47.

Mission Briefing

The following information may contain spoilers.

Good morning 47.

The Board has sanctioned Erich Soders for termination.

After Colorado, we did some digging into Soders' private affairs and discovered that he has been fast-tracked for critical heart surgery at the hyper-exclusive Gama private hospital in Hokkaido, Japan. Such a display of influence has Providence written all over it.

Soders, who suffers from a rare condition known as Situs Inversus, where his internal organs are reversed, desperately needs a right-sided heart transplant and has clearly betrayed the ICA to get it. He was admitted last night and is currently being prepped for a three-day surgery.

We have booked you into Gama under the usual guise of Tobias Rieper, corporate shark, here for a standard medical checkup. As such, you will need to play it by ear and procure whatever tools you need to complete the mission.

You will also need to eliminate Yuki Yamazaki; a Tokyo lawyer who works for Providence. Soders has already given Yamazaki access to our clients records and has agreed to provide a full list of active ICA operatives, post operation. This transaction cannot be allowed to happen.

Soders must pay for his treachery and his insidious employers must be taught a lesson. ICA’s sovereignty is at stake. Powerful as Providence may be, we need to draw a line in the sand.

I will leave you to prepare.

Diana Burnwood

Opportunities

Ghost in the Machine

The following information may contain spoilers.

Interesting. A manual for KAI, the Gama hospital artificial intelligence.

So, the building AI known as KAI not only keeps the building running but it also controls the surgery robot in the operating theater. That's where Soders is at the moment. The manual states that the AI will automatically revive any flatlined patient, which could prove to be a problem. Ah, but... the hospital director does have access to the mainframe. Care to run a hospital, 47?

Hot Springs

The following information may contain spoilers.

A yoga schedule. It has Yuki Yamazaki's name all over it.

Well, it certainly appears that Yuki Yamazaki is a fan of yoga. A schedule near the hot springs reveals that she has booked the trainer all day. Feeling flexible, 47?

Makeover

The following information may contain spoilers.

I have intel about that bandaged patient

Well, this is quite fascinating. The bandaged patient is Jason Portman, former CEO of Quantum Leap. According to my intel, he has undergone full facial reconstruction and is scheduled for bandage removal today. And, get this - he's going for the full Helmut Kruger look.

Malpractice

The following information may contain spoilers.

47, I have intel about the pilot.

I managed to gather intel from the hospital's security system. The chief surgeon, Nicholas Laurent, seems to have frequent rendezvous with the helicopter pilot near the remote personnel exit. And rumor has it that the chief surgeon suffers from trembling hands.

No Smoking

The following information may contain spoilers.

So, Yuki Yamazaki dropped her cigarettes coming up to the hospital. Interesting.

Yuki Yamazaki dropped her cigarettes off of the lift when arriving at the hospital. According to her bodyguards, this has put her on edge. Maybe you can help quench those cravings, 47? Cigarettes are contraband at Gama, but surely not everyone follows the rules...

Tell-Tale Heart

The following information may contain spoilers.

A mood altering neurochip. Interesting...

Dr. Katashi Ito, also known as "The Curator", is participating in some kind of medical trial. Interesting. The curator oversees the hospital's organ storage facility and surely has access to Soders' donor heart. I suggest you locate the research assistant's report, 47, and find out what this neural implant is for. Could prove useful.

Thrill Seeker

The following information may contain spoilers.

Poisonous fugu fish and a lawyer craving a thrill. A combination to die for.

So, Gama has banned the serving of fugu following an incident where a guest was poisoned by a poorly carved piece of the poisonous fish. It appears, however, that Yuki Yamazaki is trying to sway the chef to slice up his final specimen and serve it to her. Who are we to deny her such pleasure, 47?

Intelligence

  1. Confidential Patient Journal - Amos Dexter
The following information may contain spoilers.

Patient, Amos Dexter, is a regular at Gama. He is currently scheduled for his eight organ transplant in five years. Dexter has been here so frequently that we, despite Dr. Ito's best conservation and curation efforts, are currently out of viable lungs for him to have transplanted and Mr. Dexter is now on the RED list, awaiting a suitable donor organ. It should also be noted that Mr. Dexter still smokes and multiple staff members have confiscated several packs of cigarettes from his room; despite our best efforts, new packs keep showing up. It is recommended that an extra eye is kept on Mr. Dexter after surgery to ensure this habit is killed.

  1. Confidential Patients Journal - Erich Soders
The following information may contain spoilers.

Patient, Erich Soders suffers from the Situs Inversus conditionm which has presented Dr. Ito, our resident curator, with challenges in terms of recovering a suitable donor heart. One such heart did fortunately find its way to Gama and currently resides in the organ vault. Dr. Nicholas Laurent has been flown to assist KAI with the heart replacement procedure. Mr. Soders is currently being prepared for the procedure through a series of ground-breaking stem cell treatments pioneered (patents pending) by Dr. Laurent. The patient resides in theater and is under constant care from KAI and dependent on life support. Patient has not yet been put under.

  1. Confidential Patients Journal - Jason Portman
The following information may contain spoilers.

Patient, Jason Portman admitted to Gama for a full facial reconstruction. Reference images of Helmut Kruger added to the patient database prior to Mr. Portman's arrival. The procedure proved to be quite a challenge given the weak chin and almost-non-existent cheekbones of the patient and his desire to match Kruger 1:1. Previous facial surgery complicated matters considerably due to a lack of cartilage and facial support structure that had been chiselled away over the years. Patient is scheduled for checkup today.

  1. Confidential Patients Journal - Tobias Rieper
The following information may contain spoilers.

Mr. Rieper was admitted to Gama for a standard physical checkup. Preliminary results indicate that Mr. Rieper is in peak physical condition. In fact, the tests show absolutely no indication of any of the issues one might expect from a man his age. Melanoma, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer and heart condition checks are all in the green. Physically, Mr. Rieper is like that of a man in his early 20's. KAI was asked to run all test results through her algorithms twice. Note from the supervisor: Would it be possible to keep Mr. Rieper at Gama a little longer to run some additional test? This man is literally one big stem cell. It's almost as if he's been engineered.

  1. Doctors Appointment
The following information may contain spoilers.

Jason Portman, tech prodigy and full-time nerd, has gotten a full facial reconstruction at Gama and is scheduled to have his bandages removed today.

  1. Erich Soders' Kill List
The following information may contain spoilers.

Yuki Yamazaki's flash drive includes a list of Erich Soders' accomplishments as an ICA agent during the 1970s. Among his targets is a certain doctor Roman Laurent, father of chief surgeon Nicholas Laurent. By a strange twist of fate, Laurent is unknowingly trying to save the life of his father's killer. If only he knew.

  1. GAMA Hospital Pamphlet
The following information may contain spoilers.

A pamphlet describing the facilities at Gama: Patients are encouraged to enjoy themselves at the spa, restaurant and in the outside winter garden. Entry to the facility's many sections is granted by KAI, the resident artificial intelligence. KAI recognizes the chips implanted in your clothes and will automaticlly grant you access to the areas of Gama that you are allowed to visit. Patients with appointments at the hospital facility will be notified through the hospital's PA system.

  1. KAI
The following information may contain spoilers.

Gama hospital is in part run by an artificial intelligence called KAI. KAI is in charge of everything from calling patients over the PA to performing advanced surgery procedures. Everything at Gama is top of the line and even the doors are out of the ordinary. No keys are needed as KAI simply detects the presence of a small RFID chip incorporated into your clothing and grants you the appropriate access. Smooth and efficient.

  1. KAI Surgical System Manual
The following information may contain spoilers.

An operations manual for KAI; the hospital's revolutionary AI, developed by Kronstadt Technologies. Apparently, KAI not only keeps the facility running, but also controls the surgery robot in the operation theater and is programmed to automatically revive patients when they flatline. This could complicate matters. However, the only person with access to KAI's mainframe is the hospital director.

  1. Nondescript Keycard
The following information may contain spoilers.

A keycard found in the Hospital Director's office.

  1. Pack of Cigarettes
The following information may contain spoilers.

This is a pack of cigarettes. Gama has a strict no-smoking policy in all areas of the hospital so these are definitely contraband and must have been smuggled in somehow.

  1. Public Patients Journal - Amos Dexter
The following information may contain spoilers.

Mr. Dexter is admitted to Gama on the RED list. He is scheduled for a lung transplant as soon as a viable donor organ becomes available. So far, there seems to be no complications and the supervising surgeon is positive towards a full recovery of the patient.

  1. Public Patients Journal - Jason Portman
The following information may contain spoilers.

Mr. Jason Portman admitted for a planned facial surgery. Surgery has been undertaken and procedure is deemed a success. Healing is progressing at an average pace, and though the curve is dropping slightly there is little to be concerned about. KAI estimates that the lower healing rate is due to elevated levels of stress hormones in patient's body. Recommended yoga lessons and spa treatments declined by the patient. Mr. Portman is scheduled for a routine checkup today. The hope is to have the bandages removed.

  1. Public Patients Journal - Tobias Rieper
The following information may contain spoilers.

Mr. Tobias Rieper is in excellent physical condition. Blood work shows no indication of hereditary or age-related illnesses. Biomarkers indicate Mr. Rieper is in perfect health. Second sequence of tests not yet fully analyzed.

  1. Research Assistant's Notes
The following information may contain spoilers.

These are research notes on The Curator and his neurochip implant. They go into some detail on how the chip functions and how the increase and decrease in dosage delivery affects his mood. The notes indicate that increases in dosage tends to result in the Curator becoming quite elated while decreasing dosages revert him to his default depressed state. Interestingly, the research assistant has been dosing the Curator without his knowledge, using the chip remote control found in Curator's sleeping pod.

  1. RFID Master Chip
The following information may contain spoilers.

This is an all access keycard outfitted with an RFID master chip, which allows the user access to all locked areas in the Gama facility.

  1. Right-sided Donor Heart
The following information may contain spoilers.

A right-sided donor heart has been added to the hospital's organ storage facility. Soders suffers from Situs Inversus, a condition which causes his internal organs to be mirrored. Surely that heart is meant for him.

  1. Stem Cell Treatment Guide
The following information may contain spoilers.

A guide to administer doctor Laurent's revolutionary stem cell treatment. Apparently, the stem cells work to temporarily accelerate tissue regeneration, vastly increasing the patient's chance of survival. The stem cells are pumped directly into the patient's blood stream from a nearby vial.

  1. The Curator
The following information may contain spoilers.

According to his assistent, The Curator has a serious issue with his bio-chemical stability. The assistant has documented the condition in his notes trying to find a pattern. Those might be interesting reading.

  1. Yamazaki Wants Fugu
The following information may contain spoilers.

Not content with the trills of being a Providence operative and former Yakuza lawyer, Yuki Yamazaki seeks to tingle her tastebuds with the meat of the poisonous fugu fish. Sadly, the chef has been ordered not to server fugu after an unfortunate incidental poisoning of a hospital patient. Now, they are throwing out the last fugu.

  1. Yoga Instructor Down
The following information may contain spoilers.

The resident yoga instructor apparently injured himself while performing a particulary [sic] daring pose. He's now limping around somewhere in the hospital, unable to instruct anyone.

  1. Yoga Schedule
The following information may contain spoilers.

This is a schedule showing the yoga lessons for the day. Two things of immediate interest: JB, the yoga instructor, hasn't crossed off any of the completed lessons. And Yuki Yamazaki looks to have booked the entire day for herself.

Elusive Targets

This is a list of the elusive targets who appeared in Hokkaido:

  • Elusive Target #25: The Fugitive
    • 23 June 2017 (2000 CET) - 3 July 2017 (2000 CET)

Trivia

  • This mission can be compared to Terminal Hospitality; both missions take place in a exclusive hospital and Erich Soders and Deewana Ji both need a heart surgery.
  • This makes it only the second time a hospital appears in a mission (not counting the asylum).
  • Because of the opportunity to destroy the donor heart meant for Erich Soders, this is the first mission in the entire series that does not require you to kill the target to complete the respective objective.
  • Patients with situs inversus who do need a heart transplantation do not actually need a right-sided donor heart; this and the fact that Soders could receive an artificial heart means that it would be unlikely for him to actually be dead.
  • The challenge "Jeg Sauna Hende Ikke" is referring to the Danish sentence "Jeg savner hende ikke" which in English means "I don't miss her"
  • The Opportunity "Tell-Tale Heart" is a reference to Edgar Allan Poe's short fiction "The Tell-Tale Heart" .
