The Finish Line is the second mission in HITMAN™ 2. 47 attends the Global Innovation Race in Miami, Florida, USA, in order to eliminate one of the drivers, and CFO of Berlin-based tech consortium Kronstadt Industries, Sierra Knox, and her father, former-driver and co-founder and CEO of Kronstadt, Robert Knox.

The Finish Line[]

Diana Burnwood (VO): "Good afternoon, 47. Your destination is the annual Global Innovation motor race in Miami, Florida. After analyzing the data from Reynard's computer, the case is clear; the Providence defectors are Robert and Sierra Knox, head of robotics developer Kronstadt Industries.
A visionary inventor and technological innovator, Robert Knox has spearheaded Kronstadt Industries to the bleeding edge of technological development. His equally brilliant daughter, Sierra, is not only a financial wizard but also a fiercely competitive race car driver, with a fiery temper to match. Kronstadt enjoys enormous popularity with global consumers. However, few are aware that the company is also one of the world's leading suppliers of next-gen military tech.

Last year, despotic ruler, Jin Po, employed prototype Kronstadt drones against peaceful civilian protestors in the now-infamous "Tungan Valley incident." And although it has yet to be proven, there is little doubt that the Knoxes personally brokered the deal, making them complicit in a war crime. It is unclear why the Knoxes would betray their masters, but likely, the fear of being next on the shadow client's hit list has pressured them to cut a deal with the enemy.

Undoubtedly, with Kronstadt Industries on their side, the militia will increase their attacks ten-fold, and so our contract obligates us to retire Robert and Sierra Knox and contain the damage they may inflict on Providence. I will leave you to prepare."

MISSION ACTIVE
― Mission Briefing

Description[]

After the success of 47's assassination of Alma Reynard, the ICA have uncovered two Providence members who are planning to defect to the Shadow Client's militia: Robert Knox, the head of technology company Kronstadt Industries, and his daughter Sierra Knox. Fearful that they may be targeted by the militia, they have decided to cut a deal with the Shadow Client, leaving to Providence requesting their removal before their resources can be used by the militia.

47 must eliminate them both, during a car race at the Miami Bayside Center.

Mission Stories[]

The Munchies

The Munchies Tile
Robert Knox's favorite street food vendor has a stand at the race. Sounds promising.

It seems Robert Knox paid several visits to a bayside area food stand yesterday. The vendor, known as Florida Man, sells extremely addictive food so we should expect Knox to return. Maybe this is a way to catch Robert Knox away from the office?

A Perfect Machine

A Perfect Machine Tile
A spot on the Kronstadt pit crew. Sounds like an invitation to mischief.

One of the Kronstadt pit crew has unexpectedly quit the team in protest and Grace Miller, the ball-buster chief mechanic, is in critical need of a replacement. Why don't you step in and offer your services, 47? You're good with a wrench.

The Triumph

The Triumph Tile
The victory podium is rigged to a pyrotechnics display. Sounds promising.

Maxwell Rutter, the race Chief Coordinator, is worried that the powerful new pyrotechnics system connected to the victory podium is not exactly tamper-proof. Sabotaging it could have devastation consequences. Well, what are you waiting for?

Intravenous

Intravenous Tile
Sierra Knox is due for an intravenous revitalization treatment at the emergency area. Interesting, 47.

So, it seems Sierra Knox has jumped on the revitalization bandwagon and is scheduled for an injection of some sort. The doctor who is supposed to help her with the procedure is preoccupied with a patient who is unable to urinate. Curious situation, 47. Maybe you can speed things up?

Turbo Charged

Turbo Charged Tile
A prototype Kronstadt race car. If anything happens to it, Knox will likely come running.

Robert Knox has a race car on display in the expo building. The show staff is under strict institutions to summon him at any sign of malfunction. Apparently, Knox trusts no one to fix his car but him. Hm, perhaps it's time to poke around under the hood, 47. They do say one should never mess with another man's wheels....

Pretty in Pink

Pretty In Pink Tile
A blackmailer in a pink flamingo outfit. Sierra Knox keeps some colorful enemies.

A disgruntled Kronstadt employee has acquired some dirt on Sierra Knox and intends on blackmailing her. Disguised as one of the racing mascots, he plans to meet Sierra by the old motel. Well, I always did feel that pink was your color, 47.

The New Army

The New Army Tile
Robert Knox, a military contractor, and a new robotics project.

Ted Mendez, a defence funding consultant with the US military, is scheduled for a private demonstration of a new Kronstadt project. Sounds like a way to get up close and personal with Robert Knox.

Newspaper article with a picture of the food vendor known as "Florida Man". The article details how the food vendor, who is consistently refered to only as "Florida Man", has overcome one fantastic set of obstacles after the other in his pursuit of happiness. From nude wrestling with alligators to spending time in jail for spiking his food with crystal meth - a charge he was later cleared of, "Florida Man" has apparently seen it all. He has now struck success with his new job as a food vendor and even quotes robotics tycoon Robert Knox as saying his coconut balls are "simply the best".

  • Food Vendor Key
The following information may contain spoilers.

A key. Grants access to the Florida Man's food stand.

  • Global Innovation Race Flyer
The following information may contain spoilers.

The Global Innovation Race is a major sporting event taking place in Miami every year. Besides the endurance race itself, which runs over the course of two days, the social aspect of the race has exploded over the years. Growing from being mostly an enthusiast event, it is now a major public event complete with exclusive areas for VIPs and separate paddocks for the team drivers and crew to relax while not on track or in the pits. The exclusive driver's lounge features nightly parties and often sees the attendance of various celebrities.

  • Incriminating Evidence
The following information may contain spoilers.

A pile of incriminating evidence, presumably to be used by either a journalist or a blackmailer, indicating that Sierra Knox is performing a cover-up of something called "The Tungan Valley Incident".

  • Knox the Mechanic
The following information may contain spoilers.

Robert Knox has a prototype of his RK Mark III racing car on display in the Kronstadt Bayside Center. He is so concerned about it that he has ordered the engineers in the expo building to get him immediately should anything happen to the car. It's likely he will come rushing down to fix it himself.

  • Knox vs. Lee

  • Kronstadt Pit Security Memo
The following information may contain spoilers.

A memo from Grace Miller, the Kronstadt chief mechanic. It states that rumors of sabotage by other teams have surfaced and she advises everyone to pay close attention to suspicious items in the pit. If anyone notices defects with the wheels or the fuel supply, they should notify her immediately. She also stresses that there is a strict uniform-only policy in the pit and that everyone should keep their tools with them at all times.

  • Loading Bay Octane Booster
The following information may contain spoilers.

Apparently there is a bottle of Kronstad's patented octane booster mixture somewhere in the loading bay area. The booster will drastically enhance racing performance but is not cleared for use in the Global Innovation Race.

  • McInnis' Notebook on Robert Knox
The following information may contain spoilers.

Derek McInnis, chief android engineer at Kronstadt, apparently keeps a series of personal journals. Here, McInnis explores the nature of Robert Knox and details a complex relationship between the two men. The journal is at times rather incoherent, rambling about the genius of Knox while at the same time raging about the decisions he's making from a business perspective. It's clear that McInnis, while he has great admiration for Knox, has a deep hatred towards his boss. Possibly fueled by an inferiority complex and an incident involving Knox "rescuing" McInnis from the Yakuza while working in Tokyo. The fact that Knox frequently brings it up seems to frustrate McInnis.

  • McInnis' Notebook on Robotics
The following information may contain spoilers.

Derek McInnis, chief android engineer at Kronstadt, apparently keeps a series of personal journals. In this one, he goes into some detail about his work on PALLAS but keeps digressing into another project, which he has nicknamed "DOLORES". Apparently, he's trying to create a companion robot, but Knox wants nothing to do with it. McInnis seems overly affectionate towards his creation and resents Knox for his lack of interest.

  • Medical Cabinet Key

A key. Opens the medical cabinets.

  • Moses Lee Polaroid Picture
The following information may contain spoilers.

A signed polaroid picture of Moses Lee. Even without the cowboy hat, he looks suave.

  • Notebook Belonging to Derek McInnis
The following information may contain spoilers.

Derek McInnis, chief android engineer at Kronstadt, apparently keeps a series of personal journals. In this one, he explores his own existence in what can only be described as a high school-level philosopher's mediocre thinking. Apparently, McInnis is convinced that humans soon will be able to live beyond the flesh and he muses about the state of consciousness and, in particular, sexual activity and the nature of partnership in an all-robot future.

It looks like the type of dongle that is used to gain access to a locked computer somewhere.

Escalation Contracts[]

There are currently seven Escalation Contracts available in Miami:

Elusive Targets[]

This is the list of Elusive Targets released in Miami, with reactivations occuring exclusively in HITMAN™ 2.

Target Lockdown[]

If a target lockdown occurs whilst Sierra Knox is out of the car, she will be escorted to the pit building locker room, or her private room on the second floor of the Kronstadt Paddock, or the blackmail meet-up area at the side of the Flamingo Hotel.

Robert Knox will go to the Bayside Center's rooftop gym, or the aquarium, where he will stand underneath the display shark, which can be shot to complete the challenge "Under the Sea". He will also attempt to evacuate the level via the rooftop helicopter if he is tricked into eliminating Sierra Knox with a carbomb, which will result in failing the mission (this humorously still works even if the helicopter has been replaced by a bird's nest by disguising yourself as a Mascot).

Trivia[]

  • If everyone on the map is killed (besides 47), the race announcer will speak with a Scottish accent and comment on the mass death. This is a reference to the Scottish YouTuber bigMooney06, who is well known for his Hitman videos, most notably his "Kill Everyone" challenges. BigMooney was also the designer for one of the level's escalations.
  • With proper timing, it is possible to eliminate Sierra Knox with a remote explosive thrown from one of the overpasses above the racetrack; however, proximity explosives seem to detonate shortly after being thrown regardless of whether there is a vehicle near them.
  • Despite being a Kronstadt product, the Octane Booster is found in several competitor's garages.
  • The level contains three exit-related Easter Eggs:
    • First, whilst having a fish equipped, you must run on each of the panels by the Dolphin Fountain in the order of each one spouting water. All fountains except one will cease spraying water water will as 47 approaches the water spray. Run to the only spouting fountain, from one to the next, to unlock the secret exit.
    • The next is simply exiting via the Bayside Center rooftop helicopter whilst disguised as a Mascot. The helicopter will have been replaced with a different type of exit.
    • Finally, if you eliminate Sierra and Robert Knox whilst disguised as the Pale Rider, go to the Kronstadt garage still disguised as the Pale Rider. Not only does this unlock a secret exit, but Diana will say some lines of dialogue describing 47, a references the way the Stig (who is the inspiration for the Pale Rider disguise) is introduced in the long-running BBC TV series Top Gear.
  • PALLAS can be used to eliminate anyone that has a picture of them on the map: Robert Knox, Sierra Knox, Moses Lee, Derek McInnis, Ted Mendez, Florida Man and any mascot, each coming with unique dialogue from the android.
    • If the android eliminates a mascot while you are disguised as one, every single NPC except the targets will turn into the mascot in the picture, and will even walk around like a mascot, although their other mannerisms and voices will not change.
  • Oddly for an automotive-themed mission, there are no car batteries in the level.
  • The "Push Robert Knox on Sierra Knox" kill is impossible in real life. If the car is going 180 miles per hour, then the timing on the push would have to be much earlier than ingame.
  • The cars in the Global Innovation Race resemble Le Mans prototype cars (in this case, the Audi R18 TDI from 2011), on the front. On the rear and side profile, however, they resemble the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo concept car (also known for Le Mans prototype-like styling). The cars in this mission may also be a reference to Daytona Prototype cars in the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, or concepts for the upcoming Le Mans Hypercar class.
